A great decoration for cabins or winter locations are snowshoes. They come in a variety of shapes depending on what type of terrain they were used for. Short rounder Bear Paws are great for woodland treking, whereas a narrow shoe with a long tip is better for open, flat terrain. Some are named for Indian tribes like Huron or Ojibwe. The older pairs can have a wonderful patina that looks great on any wall or over a mantle. Many are displayed crossed but I have also seen them side by side. They definitely add a rustic comfort to any room. And, if the snow piles up like this year, and you start to get cabin fever, you can always take them down and escape!
We try to keep a variety of winter sports items for decoration. We look for snowshoes, metal ice skates, wooden skis, ice fishing items, etc. Currently we also have Scandinavian military issued ice shoes, pictured below.
Until next time....Margie
