Collecting Stuff from Cabin Fever

Snowshoes for Decoration or To Use!

A great decoration for cabins or winter locations are snowshoes. They come in a variety of shapes depending on what type of terrain they were used for. Short rounder Bear Paws are great for woodland treking, whereas a narrow shoe with a long tip is better for open, flat terrain.  Some are named for Indian tribes like Huron or Ojibwe. The older pairs can have a wonderful patina that looks great on any wall or over a mantle. Many are displayed crossed but I have also seen them side by side. They definitely add a rustic comfort to any room. And, if the snow piles up like this year, and you start to get cabin fever, you can always take them down and escape!

We try to keep a variety of winter sports items for decoration. We look for snowshoes, metal ice skates, wooden skis, ice fishing items, etc. Currently we also have Scandinavian military issued ice shoes, pictured below.

Until next time....Margie

Welcome to Collecting Stuff

Hi! This is a new blog about collecting stuff - any kind of stuff. We are located in Oakland Maryland near Deep Creek Lake. We have a store called Cabin Fever Antiques & Collectibles. From the phrase antiques and collectibles, you might conjure up a stuffy, cluttered, boring shop. Have no fear, we are none of that. We occupy two old buildings and have plenty of space yet to fill.  Hanging around - literally - is an O
ld Towne canoe, a Star Wars fighter and a remote control bi-plane. Not to mention all the interesting items sitting in the shop...the Jolly Green Giant, primitive swinging butter churn, religious roll-up school maps, 1 lb coffee bags from the 30's and 40's.....I could go on and on. I guess I will with this blog. From time to time,  I hope to mention different types of collectibles that we find interesting. Some may be available in the store and some may not. My husband (who got me into this mess - but that's another story) and I just want to share. Until next time......
